Life with a Law Student: Justifications & Excuses

Dirty laundry (Mr. Cinical’s) on the dining table, on the floor. Everywhere.

Me: “Hey, please throw all your dirty laundry into the laundry bag!”

Mr. Cinical: “The laundry bag’s not in the usual spot!”

Me: “Excuses, excuses.”

Mr. Cinical: “It’s not an excuse. It’s a justification. Justifications exonerate one’s actions, means I’m absolved from all blame. An excuse is meant to invite sympathy for one’s action, with presumption of blame.”
